The following position is currently available: Journeyman Specialist in Expo, Events and Exhibits. This is a position that requires a strong authoritative presence and great communication skills on what is to be done by the team and by when. A successful applicant will have relevant industry experience, post-secondary education, excellent task oriented and communication skills and a demonstrated level of flexibility when goals change. Results are something this leader would be driven to see while maintaining high standards, team accountability, while being a pillar of support to the journeyman team whenever and wherever needed to achieve the overall goal.
Position Overview
The Journeyman Specialist is a highly skilled technician within the Journeymen team, recognized for their expert-level knowledge and hands-on experience in one specific technical area critical to event and exhibit production. These areas may include electrical, flooring, custom exhibit systems, A/V, rigging, or other specialized disciplines. Journeyman Specialists are brought into large-scale or complex projects to ensure the highest standards of quality and technical execution in their area of expertise.
This position does not require the individual to lead a crew, but rather to perform independently with precision, professionalism, and efficiency. Specialists work closely with Production Supervisors, Project Managers, and Account Executives, serving as a go-to expert in their field while contributing to the overall success of each show or event.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Execution
- Serve as the subject matter expert for one or more key technical areas (e.g., electrical, rigging, flooring, custom structures, A/V).
- Execute assigned responsibilities with expert precision, ensuring the highest quality of work across installations, troubleshooting, and breakdowns.
- Work independently or as part of a larger team while supporting project timelines and objectives.
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and certifications as needed for your specialization.
- Ensure all specialized tasks are completed in accordance with industry standards, safety regulations, and Modern Expo’s quality expectations.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate and communicate with Production Supervisors and Project Managers to understand project scope and timeline for your area.
- Maintain professional communication on-site with internal teams, vendors, and clients.
- Proactively report progress, potential delays, and technical challenges, offering solutions when possible.
General Operational Support
- While specialized, maintain a foundational understanding of all general journeyman tasks and support where needed, including load-in/load-out, basic show setup, and safety compliance.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools and work areas.
- Operate equipment (e.g., forklifts, lifts, trucks) as needed, following company policy and legal requirements.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more key technical areas (e.g., electrical, carpet/flooring, custom structures, A/V systems, rigging, etc.).
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in large-scale exhibit or event production.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Forklift certification and valid driver’s license with a clean MVR.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work flexible hours as required by show schedules.
- Commitment to upholding Modern Expo's safety and performance standards
Technical Skills Checklist
