Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our commercial printing team. The Estimator will be responsible for analyzing job specifications, calculating costs, and preparing competitive quotes for customers. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent mathematical skills, and a deep understanding of printing processes, materials, and production workflows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review job specifications and customer requirements to determine the most efficient production methods.
- Calculate costs for materials, labor, and machine time to generate accurate price estimates.
- Collaborate with sales, production, and purchasing teams to ensure pricing aligns with company capabilities and profitability goals.
- Prepare and present detailed job estimates, including alternate pricing options when applicable.
- Maintain and update pricing databases for materials, equipment, and outsourced services.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend process improvements.
- Assist in job planning and scheduling to optimize production efficiency.
- Communicate with vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing on materials and services.
- Track and analyze job costs versus estimates to refine pricing strategies.
- Ensure timely turnaround of quotes to support sales and customer service teams.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Previous experience in estimating within a commercial printing or manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of printing methods (offset, digital, large format, etc.), paper stocks, finishing, and bindery processes.
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with internal teams, vendors, and customers.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
