What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Optician position at Modern Optometry?
Modern Optometry, located in Northeast Philadelphia, is hiring a new optician/technician to join our family! We keep an efficient, family-friendly atmosphere with the help of our amazing staff and believe in a work-home balance which is reflected in our schedule. Our employees enjoy a three day weekend three weeks a month. We believe in providing a superior experience for our patients and having one key person work with them through the entire office flow helps to give the patient a concierge feel.
The successful candidate will be willing to work full-time hours, provide friendly customer service, be able to think on their feet and maintain attention to detail.
Your job responsibilities will include:
- Pre test patients for their exam and remain in the exam room during the encounter to scribe for the doctor
- Provide a seamless transition to the optical if needed with your patient to provide optical education.
- Interpret optical prescriptions written by both optometrists and ophthalmologists
- Educating our patients on various lens designs, lens options and proper fitting frames
- Take frame and facial measurements to ensure proper frame fit and positioning
- Properly adjusting patients’ frames during the dispensing process
- With further training, provide contact lens training and give advice on care/use
- Help the staff achieve production goals, while addressing the patients’ specific needs
- Operate equipment associated with the role (lensometer, pupillometer, pretest etc.)
- Learn/use our EHR software to document, order and receive patient lab jobs
- Apply patients’ insurance plans to eyewear purchases
- Inspect lenses/frames on delivery to ensure they meet required specifications
- Arrange and maintain a clean optical area
- Help to answer the phones and schedule appointments in the rare times as needed

Our office hours are:
M-T 9-7
W-R 9-5
Sat 9am-1pm (every other Saturday, normally you only work 1 per month)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $27.00 per hour
