Responsibilities
- Guide and model core values – set the example for others to follow
- Assist the BU Senior Director and Division Chief Engineer with establishing long-term strategic technical direction to develop and deliver first choice differentiated capabilities to their target markets and customers
- Serve as primary business unit contact for identifying and maintaining insight into business unit’s differentiated capabilities, and assist business unit director and Project Managers in cross selling company capabilities to existing customers and leveraging company capabilities to create proposal strengths (for re-competes and new business)
- Serve as the BUs senior technical representative with customers, partners, and in cross BU and cross Divisional activities
- Lead business unit engagement in identifying and prioritizing company IRAD projects, capability focus area initiatives, and employee training investments; assist BU Senior Director in building annual budgets/plans in these investment areas.
- Lead and/or oversee business unit IRAD, CFA, and training execution vs. plan and quickly address issues or challenges; participate in IRAD PMRs; share lessons learned to enable process improvements
- Serve as a Technical Lead for assigned projects (customer and internal); Provide ad-hoc (sometimes emergency) support to challenging technical issues identified across the company. Assist the team in developing technical solutions to customer challenges/problems
- Interface regularly with VP of Engineering, Division Chief Engineers, other BU Chief Engineers and Technical Fellows to facilitate improved technical collaboration and information crossflow
- Complete Proposal Lead training and certification once training curriculum is established; Serve on proposal color review teams for proposals as directed; provide technical leadership for business unit and division priority proposals as required
- Participate in Communities of Practice (CoPs) and assist with updating technical training curriculum and core competency best practices
- Coach and mentor technical leaders in your business unit to prepare them for career advancement
- Participate in corrective action response to identified business unit service, solution, or production technical quality issues
Qualifications
- Proven senior level engineer with experience leading large, complex, and unique technical projects and applying specialized engineering and analytical principles to efficiently solve complex technical problems
- Knowledge or Army R&D structure, organizations, and processes.
- Proven proactive communication with BU level and above leadership
- Broad technical knowledge and expertise with the ability to understand and clearly communicate the value of diverse company differentiated capabilities to business unit customers
- Consistently recognized by customers as a top technical performer on contract who sets the technical standard for engineering excellence
- Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with technical leadership across the entire company to create effective/executable business unit IRAD, CFA, CoP strategies, plans, and budgets
- Effective teacher and coach with a passion for developing engineering talent and preparing them for career advancement
- Experienced and skilled technical volume proposal writer and reviewer
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Required: Bachelors degree in engineering discipline or a hard science.
- Desired: Masters degree in a STEM discipline
- At least 14 years of experience in engineering and engineering leadership positions
- Understanding and experience in MTSI capture and proposal processes
