Database Engineer

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Database Engineer to join our team in the Ft Meade, MD area in support of a government organization essential to U.S. national security.  You will provide technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis.  An active TS/SCI security clearance with a polygraph is required.

Responsibilities

As a Database Engineer with MTSI you will be responsible for providing technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis.  This position will be in located in the Ft. Meade, MD area.

Your essential job functions will include but will not be limited to:

• You will support the database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis activities.
• Support the analysis and evaluation of system improvements, optimization, development and/or maintenance efforts.
• Support the development of long-and short-term requirements for database administration and Design.
• Assist in developing databases, database parser software, and database loading software.
• Translate a set of requirements and data into a usable database schema by creating or recreating ad hoc queries, scripts and macros, updates existing queries, creates new ones to manipulate data into a master file; along with building complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity and database storage and retrieval using Cloud methodologies.
• You will be responsible for developing a database structure that fits into the overall architecture of the system under development and has to make trades among data volumes, number of users, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security and domain controls.
• You will develop relational and/or Object-Oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software. 
• Work primarily at the front end of the lifecycle-requirements through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC). 
• Develop requirements from a project’s inception to its conclusion for a particular business and Information Technology (IT) subject matter area (i.e., simple to complex systems).
• Assist with recommendations for, and analysis and evaluation of systems improvements, optimization, development, and/or maintenance efforts.

Qualifications

• 3 years of relevant work experience as a Database Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills; being able to work with personnel across multiple disciplines of the organization.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Ability to work well independently or as a team member.

Qualifications Desired:

• Experince using tools like Python and SQL. 
• Experince with cloud computing platforms like; Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS GovCloud.
• Expereince with ETL frameworks.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degrees in computer science, computer programming, engineering or relevant technical or analytics discipline.
• 5 years of Database Engineer experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

Certifications Requirements:

• Any Data Engineer certification, (Desired).

Clearance Requirements:

• TS/SCI clearance and CI Polygraph with eligibility for Full Scope Polygraph.
• Active Full Scope Polygraph, (Desired).
• U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
