Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Engineer and Data Analyst
As a Modeling & Simulation (M&S) Engineer and Data Analyst, you will support the research and development of Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) technologies within the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL). This role involves providing M&S support, data analysis, and technical advisement to enhance avionics capabilities for the U.S. Air Force, while being part of a collaborative government and contractor team.
About the Role
- You will be responsible for providing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) support of Electro Optical and Infrared technologies to the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL).
- You will sit in the AFRL customer facility and be an integral part of a combined government/contractor team developing and demonstrating cutting-edge avionics capabilities for the U.S. Air Force.
Responsibilities
- Provide Modeling and Simulation (M&S) and data analysis for Electro Optical (EO) and Infrared (IR) cutting-edge technologies.
- Use data analysis and/or software tools to generate scientific results to support R&D programmatic decisions.
- Provide analytical/modeling subject matter expertise advisement to senior engineers, program managers, and senior leaders to help drive sound technological decisions.
- Analyze end user requirements and provide recommendations based on scientific results and developmental risks.
- Evaluate proposed projects for feasibility and applicability to relevant military mission areas.
- Participate in strategic planning and development of systems architectures as well as recommend requirements for new projects.
- Identify and recommend alternative or new Research and Development (R&D) strategies.
- Generate documents, briefings, roadmaps, and planning materials to support the customer mission.
- Work closely with program managers, lead project engineers, and program teams.
Requirements
- Active DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
- 8-10 years' experience with M&S and data analysis, MATLAB, and Python, image and signal processing.
- Experience with EO sensors, IR Search and Track (IRST) systems, Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), laser optics, image processing, signal processing, and statistics.
- Strong EO/IR data analysis and performance modeling computing skills.
- MATLAB and/or Python expertise is required.
- Proficient knowledge of software development and/or software maintenance.
- Experience processing image/signal data and a working knowledge on data-basing, data storage, and data archiving.
- Ability to develop and present analysis results briefings to senior leadership.
- Experience in generating requirements analysis and definitions at the mission and systems engineering levels.
- Strong skills in documenting inputs, outputs, and requirements.
- Experience developing high-level project/work plans.
- Familiarity with EO modeling tools such as MODTRAN, LEEDR, and DIRSIG.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related technical field. A Master's degree in a similar field is highly desired.
