What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Support Specialist position at Modoc Nation Behavioral Health?
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Proactively engage patients & possess communication skills / ability to transfer new concepts, ideas, & insight to others.
2. Facilitate peer support groups.
3. Assist in setting up & sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups.
4. Assist in creating crisis plans.
5. Utilize / teach problem solving techniques, including how to identify & combat negative self-talk & fears.
6. Support the vocational choices of patients & assist him / her in overcoming job-related anxiety.
7. Assist in building social skills in the community that will enhance quality of life. Support the development of natural support systems.
8. Attend treatment team & program development meetings to ensure the presence of the client voice & to promote the use of self-directed recovery tools.
9. Provide & advocate for effective recovery-oriented services.
10. Assist patients in obtaining services that suit that individual’s recovery needs.
11. Inform patients about community & natural supports & how to utilize these in recovery process.
12. Assist patients in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy.
13. Supports & promotes a service environment for individuals in need of behavioral health and / or co-occurring services that is recovery focused, welcoming, & attentive the needs of individuals who may have experienced trauma in their lives.
14. Obtain GPRA data from all patients at intake, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, & discharge.
15. Obtain specimens from clients for drug screens.
16. Maintain license / certification for PRSS classification.
17. Provide transportation for LRTC clients, staff, & Modoc Nation.
18. Coordinate transportation for client while keeping facility schedules accommodated.
19. Keep / update bus logs.
20. Ensure the bus / vehicle is mechanically maintained & ready for daily routes.
21. Provide for open communication with LRTC staff regarding concerns for clients.
22. Assist with maintenance for LRTC as needed, to include restocking supplies, etc.
23. Ensure compliance with HIPAA & other confidentiality regulations in all aspects of job duties.
24. Staff & support outreach activities as required.
25. Attend All – Staff meetings & all other meetings as required.
26. All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Must have a high-school diploma or GED.
2. Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving history free of accidents, violations, suspensions, or infractions.
3. Minimum of one-year participation in local or national patient advocacy or knowledge of recovery.
4. Current or former patient of behavioral health or substance abuse services.
5. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening & background check.
6. Must provide documentation of covid vaccination status or request exemption based on qualifying factors.
Supervision: This position will operate under the direct supervision of the Lead Therapist.
Compensation: $30,000 – 45,000 annual salary plus fringe benefits with the opportunity for biannual bonus.
Schedule: This employee shall maintain regular business hours (40 hours per week).
Location: This position will primarily operate from Lost River Treatment Center, though travel may be required to off – site locations.
