    Description: Moffat County School District is looking for a motivated, caring, and enthusiastic person to fill a one year only Teacher on Special Assignment/Dean of Students position at Sandrock Elementary.

    • Salary: Placement on the Certified salary schedule is commensurate with education and experience. $50,000-$116,845

    Job Summary: The TOSA/Dean of Students serves as a member of the elementary school administrative team and assists with the daily operation of the school, specifically in the areas of attendance, behavioral, and disciplinary prevention, and intervention services with an emphasis on Restorative Practices, District Designated Practices, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). The applicant needs to embrace an inclusive philosophy providing a safe and orderly environment for both student and adult learning.

    Education and/or Experience: Minimum requirement – Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited four year college or university.

    Licenses, Certificates: Minimum Requirements- Colorado Elementary Teaching License OR Colorado Secondary English Teaching License

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Work closely with teachers, advisors, and the school counselor, providing programming and practices that embrace and incorporate the guiding principles of PAWS behavior while maintaining transparent data to ensure the practices are being followed with fidelity.
    • Collaborates with administrators and leadership teams to fulfill traditional discipline processes and utilize alternatives to traditional school discipline and consequences.
    • Assist in the implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to student behavior and attendance. Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student community.
    • Address bus behavior referrals and maintain appropriate documentation.
    • Communicate with students, parents, and staff promptly regarding student behavior and attendance by the staff handbook.
    • Maintain a commitment to learning about best practices in student management and attendance.
    • Attend/lead special meetings to engage in conversations involving student behavior and attendance.
    • Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to the job assignment.
    • Meet with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
    • Perform supervision of students during unstructured times such as before and after school, during passing times, and during lunch periods.
    • Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of student code of conduct, rules, regulations, and handbooks.
    • Serve as an emergency substitute teacher when the need arises.
    • Perform such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct, including entry of behavior events in the student information system, and producing and sending documentation related to behavior events to families as required by policy or statute.
    • Works directly with academically and socially challenged students, in partnership with building teachers, administrators, counselors, and parents.
    • Assist students in adapting and overcoming problems that emerge due to behavioral difficulties while fostering and helping students develop suitable academic skills and social abilities.
    • Encourages and motivates students to develop independence, and self-confidence, and to achieve their full potential.
    • Facilitate an effective process to establish and maintain behavior, attendance and 504 plans when established.
    • Maintains records and makes such reports as required and directed by the administrator.
    • Attends staff meetings and in-service training programs and serves on staff committees as required.
    • Attend district meetings when deemed necessary by the building principal.
    • Collects, analyzes, and maintains student data and information confidentially.
    • Documents behavioral and attendance records in the district-assigned data systems in a timely manner while producing weekly reports to administrators and staff.
    • Maintains membership of various building leadership team(s).
    • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction.
    • Student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, other teachers, and administration.
    • Partnerships with appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or making referrals.
    • All safety protocols are followed: Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, etc.) to maintain the personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to education code and school policies.
    • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing appropriate personnel for resolution.
    • Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
    • Occasional travel between schools.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and students; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
