Rail Engineer - Junior Level

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Rail Engineer to join our Rail team.   As part of the Rail Group, the Rail Engineer manages project tasks of rail transportation projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Produces rail design project tasks including geometric design, civil and drainage design
• Collects field data, documenting and reporting field conditions and findings.
• Produces 2D concept plans and schematics and confidently communicates rail design options to the project team.  
• Produces 3D rail designs using Civil3D or OpenRail to verify project requirements are met and project is viable 
• Performs first round quality assurance/quality control of other team member’s work
• Performs mentorship of junior team members
• Assists with completion of field work.

 Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; required
• EIT or FE required
• 1 to 4 years of experience in transportation or rail/transit engineering
• MicroStation / GEOPAK or AutoCAD / Civil 3D experience required
• Microsoft Office software experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) 
• Availability and willingness to travel
• OpenRoad / OpenRail design software experience, preferred
• Experience with AREMA, Class 1 railroad, and/or commuter rail/transit agency design criteria and standards, preferred
• PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months, preferred
• All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

 Working conditions: 

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
