The Oncology Medical Interpreter II provides interpreting services to Limited English Proficiency patients and Moffitt Cancer Center providers during clinical and non-clinical encounters selecting the appropriate interpreting mode to the encounter. The Oncology Medical Interpreter II renders meaning in a confidential, accurate, complete, and impartial way while maintaining professional boundaries and ethical standards, treating parties with respect, and acting in a professional and ethical manner.
Responsibilities
- Provides interpreting services from/into English and a second language between Limited English Proficiency patients and Moffitt providers (clinical and non-clinical).
- Completes Powerchart tasks generated after the patient has been admitted.
- Documents the encounter promptly and accurately on the patient’s chart and maintains accurate records of the services provided within the department’s application.
- Knowledgeable about internal policies related to language and communication, about the provision of language access services at Moffitt, and about how to access them, and educates internal customers on these matters as needed.
- Under the direction of the Supervisor/Manager, provides mentoring/training to new interpreter staff as well as other members of the Language Services team.
- Associate’s Degree required.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in professional interpreting (Healthcare, legal or other related in both remote [over the phone, video or RSI] or in-person modalities), with two (2) years in a health setting).
- Candidate must also present proof of specific medical interpreting training (minimum of 40 hours) upon hire.
- One of the following certifications required within 12 months of hire: CHI, CMI, RID, court interpreting.
- Four (4) years of experience as an in-person medical interpreting in a hospital setting and at least one year experience in oncology.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
