What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tutor position at Mohave Community College?
The part-time tutor is responsible for conducting tutoring sessions. Works alongside Faculty and Student Services staff to ensure the delivery of tutoring in order to increase success, and retention, and promote student learning. It is strongly desired that applicants be able to work year-round within the hours of from 9 AM to 9 PM weekdays, with occasional, optional Saturdays.

- Maintain assigned hours in the designated Student Success Center and provide group tutoring and one-on-one tutoring.
- Tutoring may take place in person or virtually .Foster the development of independent learning and study skills to improve comprehension in subject areas.
- Communicate with professors as needed. Maintain tutoring and instructional standards in accordance with the procedures and philosophy of the tutoring program and the College.
- Confer with and work under the direction of the Student Success Center staff to document student attendance, progress, or additional service needs, and maintain and report all employment hours in a timely fashion.
- Work with the student to set goals and objectives for each tutoring session.
- Maintain confidentiality when dealing with any personnel or student information.
- Utilize effective communication skills for all written and/or verbal interaction.
- Work in collaboration with faculty, other tutors, and support services.
- Maintain student records as required.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of both the Tutoring Program and the College.
- Demonstrate positive attitude for one-on-one, peer-group, coaching/mentoring, tutoring techniques, promoting confidence, independent learning and increased study skills.
- Assist students in developing self-confidence, positive attitude, and independent motivation. Assist with classroom visits and Student Success Center events.
- Assist students with technology such as navigating the LMS, submitting Help Desk tickets, etc.
- Learn and correctly apply College policies and procedures.
- Attend all required training as scheduled.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Student Success Center staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- An A or B grade in the College course(s) to be tutored and instructor letter of recommendation.
- Demonstration of mastery of material needed to tutor.
- Must be able to work up to 19.5 hours week.
