GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Human Resources Generalist will own key functions of the Human Resources department including payroll, benefits administration, leaves of absence, change management, recordkeeping, and employee onboarding and offboarding. The Human Resources Generalist will also support recruitment, training, and various departments with data management maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports recruitment by posting job openings, tracking applications, being the initial reviewer of candidates, conducting phone screens, and making employment offers.
- Manages the onboarding process, including pre-employment background checks and drug tests, IT requests, workstation setup, and orientation.
- Tracks delinquent and completion of mandatory and non-mandatory trainings.
- Reviews and documents compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations by reviewing policies and programs, and recommending updates, changes, and best practices.
- Manages the offboarding process, including termination paperwork, systems removal, and benefits removal.
- Manages Mohawk’s employee recognition programs and events.
- Manages payroll by keeping timecards up to date, checking time off requests, supporting timecard approvers, and being the final reviewer for accuracy before submittal.
- Track production attendance to assure adherence to the attendance policy.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leaves of absence, worker’s compensation, and training and development.
- Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- First point of contact for employee support regarding leaves of absence, benefits, Worker’s Compensation claims, and change management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, to include Word and Excel.
- Prior experience administering employee benefits, leaves of absence, and recognition programs.
- Prior recruitment, payroll, and policy review experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with an HRIS and benefit portals.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English, and be understood.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field and at least three years of professional human resources experience required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Physical activity includes walking, standing, bending, squatting, reaching above shoulders and lifting up to 25 pounds. Minimal travel is required for this position. Travel will be by car, train, or plane and employee will be exposed to normal travel hazards while traveling.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Perform office activities in a well-lit and well-ventilated area. When performing work in the manufacturing facility, may be subject to changes in temperature and exposure to above normal noise levels, electrical equipment, chemicals, and dust. Normally acceptable manufacturing environment with no abnormal hazards or risks other than those listed herein. Will be exposed to uncontrolled environmental conditions during driving.
