Job Summary
Responsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident / patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for administration and direct application of Speech / Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician.
- Evaluates, assesses, plans, directs and treats all residents or patients referred for speech / language pathology services. Interprets test results in accordance with standard speech / language procedures.
- Re-evaluates patients as appropriate. Implements new treatment plans and goals as necessary.
- Implements treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury.
- Participates in multidisciplinary consultations.
- Participates in performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.
- Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.
- May provide information related to departmental budget considerations in relationship to Speech Pathology needs for optimum patient care and service.
- May assists in scheduling patient or resident visits for further evaluation and treatment.
- Ensures all documentation and charts are complete.
- Participates in infection control, safety and educational programs, both in the department and on an organizational wide basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
