Supports and assists the IT Department in the development of sound practices and solutions for infrastructure issues.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Install configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools
- Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
- Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
- Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Participate in the design of information and operational support systems
- Liaise with vendors and other IT staff for problem resolution
- Analyze performance statistics for tuning on Windows, Linux, Citrix, Novell, UNIX, AIX and Open VMS Servers
- Design server hardware and software configuration.
- Recommend changes to server configurations and O/S settings as needed to ensure smooth operation.
- Perform proactive hardware, O/S and database server maintenance during on and off-hours.
- Is flexible and available to come on-site for on-call duty after hours.
- Provide skills transfer and support to distributed systems support staff.
- Provides highest level of system administration at root of UNIX/Windows domain and NetWare tree
- Acts as security administrator across all distributed systems within the MVHS IT network.
- Performs as project manager for server implementation and deployment
- Perform R&D activities on new technologies and ideas to provide adequate recommendations on distributed systems technologies.
- Actively and conscientiously drive outages to resolution acting as liaison between users and vendors
- Maintain technical skills in line with current industry standards and certifications.
- Negotiate with vendors and bid equipment purchases to affect the best value for the enterprise.
- Takes pride in providing the highest level of customer service.
- Communicates clearly and concisely with customers and management.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED:
- Associates’ degree in computer science, engineering, telecommunications or related field.
- Minimum 1-4 years experience in distributed systems data center or equivalent environment.
- Knowledge and experience with TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NETBUI, Novell 4.1X, Windows NT, DEC Open VMS, UNIX and AIX.
- Good customer service skills.
- Must work as an excellent team member and have superb oral and written communication skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Flexible and available to come on-site for on-call duty after hours.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, telecommunications or related field.
PREFERRED:
- Minimum 1 IT certifications such as MCP, UNIX, MCSE/CCNA.
