JOB
GOAL: The goal of the Middle School Career Center Coordinator is to provide students with the exposure and access to a wide variety of career paths and post high school educational opportunities so they may begin the explorative journey toward their post high school aspirations.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully an individual must:

  • Be 21 years or older.

  • Have the ability to:
    • work harmoniously with others with a demonstrated ability to be flexible.
    • communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, staff, business and education partners and community.
    • maintain a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills while multitasking in an environment with frequent interruptions.
    • understand and follow both oral and written directions and communicate them to others.
    • work independently and as a successful team member to oversee and organize projects and accomplish related tasks.
    • supervise individuals or groups of students independently in an instructional setting with limited teacher oversight.
    • maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staff.
    • work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing.

  • Have the skills to:
    • operate standard office equipment including computers, copiers and audio-visual equipment.
    • use the full Google suite of applications including email, Google docs and Google sheets to prepare, save, and share documents and disseminate information to others using district email.

  • Have a full working knowledge of:
    • best practices related to career and college exploration.
    • current and emerging careers and the skills and education needed to be successful in them.
    • college admissions requirements and scholarship opportunities.


ESSENTIAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Include the following. Other duties may also be assigned.

  • Collaborate with staff to identify students’ post-secondary interests and then plan and coordinate activities and opportunities based on those interests.
  • Work closely with school counselors to provide students with opportunities to explore post-secondary education and career paths including college, trade school, vocational training, and career opportunities including the armed forces.
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and businesses to provide a range of opportunities for students in college and career exploration and readiness including arranging guest speakers and coordinating field trips.
  • Organize and provide post-secondary educational materials and communication including college and trade school information and searches and scholarship opportunities.
  • Oversee the implementation of a career guidance system that allows students to begin mapping their future.
  • Facilitate collaboration between classroom teachers and business partners to link classrooms and careers.
  • Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as deemed appropriate by the Board or Administration.


CERTIFICATES,
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education.
  • Possess and maintain a valid First Aid card if required
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
