Position Overview: As a Veterinary Assistant at Molalla River Veterinary Center, your role is to support the veterinary team in delivering high-quality care to animals. You will assist with various tasks, including patient care, client communication, facility maintenance, and administrative duties. Your compassion for animals, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively will contribute to the overall success of the practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animal Care and Assistance:
- Assist with animal handling, restraint, and transportation.
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical suites for procedures (including dental)
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgeries: including anesthesia
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as directed by the veterinary team.
- Monitor patients at all phases of hospitalization and report any significant changes to the veterinary staff.
- Assist with prescription management, including learning and understanding different medications (including the basics of what it is used for and why), properly getting prescriptions counted, labeled and double checked.
- Client Communication and Support:
- Greet clients in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist with client check-ins, appointment scheduling, and record updates.
- Answer client inquiries regarding general pet care, procedures, and medications.
- Provide compassionate support to clients during emotional or challenging situations.
- Relay messages between clients and the veterinary team accurately and promptly.
- Facility Maintenance and Inventory Management:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, treatment areas, and common areas.
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment.
- Assist with inventory management, including stocking and restocking supplies.
- Prepare and package laboratory samples for analysis.
- Properly dispose of medical waste and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Administrative Tasks and Documentation:
- Record accurate and detailed patient information, medical history, and treatments.
- Enter data into the clinic's management software and maintain electronic records.
- Assist with billing, invoicing, and processing payments.
- Support the veterinary team with administrative tasks as needed.
5. Management:
· Help assist the veterinary team in developing protocols and SOPs for hospital function and flow
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a veterinary assistant or in an animal care-related role is preferred.
- Strong passion for animals and a genuine interest in their well-being.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients and colleagues.
- Ability to handle animals with care and follow proper low stress restraint techniques.
- Basic knowledge of veterinary procedures, terminology, and common animal diseases.
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical stamina to lift and move heavy animals or equipment when necessary: ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Familiarity with veterinary software systems and general office applications is advantageous.
- Ability to commute to work

Pay: $18.50 - $22.00 per hour
