Summary of Position: The Truck Driver is responsible for driving a heavy truck, transporting cargo safely to and from destinations in metro Detroit area, Grand Rapids, and occasionally out of state (primarily home each night). The Truck Driver will also have duties and responsibilities within the shipping and receiving department:
Essential Duties:
- Responsible for ensuring tools are properly secured to prevent damage/injury
- Responsible for fully understanding how to operate and safely drive assigned truck
- Assist in mapping driving routes to ensure timely deliveries and pick ups
- Responsible for performing inspections on the truck prior to and following each trip
- Responsible for maintaining and servicing the truck as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.)
- Communicating with production managers and shop office coordinators on all tools coming and going
- Responsible for notifying all necessary management of any major maintenance or delivery issues
- Responsible for following a delivery schedule while maintaining proper break times as needed
- Lead point person on making sure the proper tools match up with the documents
- Responsible for maintaining signatures on all documentation for every tool delivery and pick up
- Responsible for obeying all applicable traffic laws and driving in accordance to the weather/road conditions
- Assist in shipping and receiving when outside trucks drop off tools by unloading, accounting for each tool, piece and part marked on the documents with each tool and signing off on receiving them
- Assist in shipping and receiving by communicating with production manager and shop office coordinators regarding the movement to which each tool needs to go and what department
- Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles
- Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
- Physically and mentally fit
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time
- Possess great physical stamina and focus during long driving shifts
- Comfortable with long-haul transport
- Able to operate an electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc.
- Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
- Map reading and route planning experience
- An innate sense of direction
- Self-starter who works well independently
- Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
- High level of composure and good stress management
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL class B) required
- 2 years of proven experience commercial truck driving preferred
- Clean driving record with no moving violations
