We are seeking a Quality Technician / Receiving Clerk to join our Port Washington location. Reporting to the Quality Engineering Manager, this role is essential in ensuring that all incoming materials meet our high-quality standards while keeping inventory accurate and organized. The ideal Quality Technician will serve as a technical resource in the Quality department for part inspection and measuring, and to establish quality specifications for new items and inserts. Additionally, this role involves overseeing Receiving duties, collaborating closely with Purchasing and Customer Service to ensure the accurate receipt, identification, and proper initial storage of all incoming raw materials, supplies, equipment, and returned goods. Forklift experience is preferred.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES :
1) May help with or perform first article inspections :
- Prioritize inspections or work tasks based upon input from Quality Engineering Manager, Quality Engineer, and / or Engineering.
- Understands part drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Selects inspection methods. Measures parts utilizing a variety of equipment, from a durometer gage to the vision system. Visually inspects parts. Performs any additional testing required.
- May help prepare ISIRs, PPAPs, approval forms, inspection records and all other customer requested quality documentation. May work directly with customers to ensure their expectations are understood and met.
- Consults with Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, Chemist and / or Engineering Project Manager, on any non-conformances as needed.
- Promptly records and / or communicates inspection results, approvals, and customer feedback as needed.
2) May establish inspection and test methods for receiving inserts and manufacturing of product.
3) Perform receiving inspection on insert components used in the manufacturing process. Inspect visually, check mold fit with MFG when applicable, and perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, optical comparator, gages, etc. Record data as required by associated policies and procedures.
4) Disposition inserts with acceptance tags or a VRMA. If materials are non-conforming, alert Purchasing / Scheduling or Customer Service, as needed.
5) Help train operators and other colleagues in customer quality expectations, inspection methods, proper gage use, and blueprint reading.
6) Conducts in process and product inspection audits validating that operators are following procedures, work instructions and critical to quality characteristics per part requirements.
7) Maintains the QA sample cabinets including SPL / Quality Alert creation and retention.
8) Safely unload trucks at the Receiving dock. Requires forklift training / certification.
9) Aids Manufacturing and Engineering in data collection for production items.
10) Assists the Project Assistant in updating process routings WI instructions.
11) May enter inspection data in various locations including ERP system, excel spreadsheets, word documents, and may file / store documents in various locations in network or ERP storage / library.
12) Assist in evaluation / disposition of RMA, VRMA returns, verify counts, assist in sorting returns and identifying root cause.
13) Assist manufacturing in inspecting / sorting products and / or defining defect limits.
14) Check goods received against purchase orders or packing lists, for : quantity, type, size, part numbers, etc. Enter receipts into business systems accurately and in a timely manner. Assign batch number, sales number, and lot number. Ensure materials are properly identified. Maintain records and prepare receiving reports as required. File certs and pack list in appropriate locations.
18) Back up and supports other Quality Assurance personnel as needed. Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
1) Preferred associate degree in Quality and a minimum of two (2) years experience in manufacturing Quality Assurance, or a Quality Technician Certificate and a minimum of five (5) years experience in manufacturing Quality Assurance, or 7 years of experience in a quality field.
2) Working knowledge of PPAP documentation, SPC, control plans, gage R&R studies, and other common manufacturing quality tools
3) Previous Receiving and forklift experience preferred.
3) Proficiency in reading blueprints, determining appropriate inspection techniques, and using measuring equipment, including a vision system
4) Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 60 pounds
5) Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with purchasing, customer service, quality, operations, peers and any other MDG associates.
6) Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet production schedules
