What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Project Engineer position at MoldTecs?
MoldTecs is a worldwide automotive Tier-1 company, headquartered in Laval, France, specialized in development and manufacture of Technical-Plastic-Parts, worldwide. The main field of applications & product line are in Air-Intake Systems (Intake Manifold, Charge Air Ducts etc.) for thermal engines and fuel cells, fluid reservoirs etc. MoldTecs is also developing its portfolio in electric mobility for technical plastic components linked to batteries, e-motors and electric vehicle cooling.
The R&D department is composed by the Senior Innovation Expert, the Advanced development Group, the Center of Competences, the Experts Group and the Product Design Group.
The Lead Product/Project Engineer will be an active member of the Project Group (in which he/she will be involved) managed by the Project Managers. This Project Group (defined for each new project) is mainly composed by the Lead Product/Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Quality Engineer, and Purchasing Engineer.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager &/or to the Center-Of-Competence Manager, the Lead Product/Project Engineer is in-charge of managing the engineering development with preparing technical solutions to meet customer specifications & requirements, the project timing, the engineering costs, the quality and the MoldTecs requirements and internal rules.
With the project manager, the LPE will be the MoldTecs Technical Window person to the customer for all the items related to the technical discissions & deliverables.
- Lead Project Engineer’s (LPE) responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Functional team member for in-development projects with necessary duties to meet internal & customer’s milestones & engineering deliverables.
- A key engineering support to facilitate new business quotation activities for R&D functions such as product feasibility, validation compliance, risk analysis, competitiveness studies etc.
- Support weekly Change Management & Deviation Committee meetings for change(s) risk assessment, risk mitigation & implementation planning with the project team.
- Establish cross functional communication with Engineering Center of Competency (CoC) in France to cascade & reinforce, Engineering Standards/Good Practices.
- Support to plan, structure and coordinate all activities associated with “MoldTecs’ Production Relocation Plan”.
- Support Plan, track and analyze; Initiate corrective actions and/or escalate in case of deviations in day-to-day engineering activities & responsibilities.
- Maintain the engineering relevant (master) data and CIM Database to ensure that all information and R&D documentation are available and up to date.

Mission 1 :
Products Development
Define the:
- Product development plan needed to achieve the technical requirements, project schedule and part price already defined.
- Product development strategy (risk release plan) in relationship with the risk analysis and according to the project schedule
- Development budget to develop the product.
- Analyze the technical requirements of the project itself and build the validation plan.
- Build the functional analysis, risk analysis and D-FMEA
- Propose relevant, innovative and new technical solutions.
- Organize and lead brainstorming sessions, analyze the benchmark.
- Propose functional drawings with appropriate tolerances and datum.
- Confirm the product feasibility and reliability using tolerances stack up tools, simulations, Proof Of Concept demonstrators, etc.
- Use MoldTecs standards (Design, Project, and Quality procedures)
- Build functional description for all purchased components.
- Use CAD software to initiate concept and drawings.
- Build the customer’s communication using clear media with technical and strategic messages. (meeting minutes, projects progress, project status, document revision with history).
- Drive the change management according to the MoldTecs internal process.
Mission 2 :
Request For quotation and expert phases
Define the:
- Schedule and budget to develop the future product.
- Product development plan needed to achieve the technical requirements and project schedule.
- Analyze the technical requirements of the project itself and build the validation plan.
- Build the functional analysis, risk analysis and D-FMEA
- Compare, rank, and challenge several concepts in order to propose the best technical and economical solution to the customer.
- Propose relevant, innovative, and new technical solutions.
- Organize and lead brainstorming sessions.
- Analyze the benchmark and published IP
- Propose functional drawings with appropriate tolerances and datum.
- Confirm the product feasibility and reliability using tolerances stack up tools, simulations, Proof Of Concept demonstrators, etc.
- Analyze Experts analysis reports and define the next steps (actions plan) if needed.
- Use MoldTecs standards (Design, Project and Quality procedures)
- Build functional description for all purchased components.
- Use CAD software to initiate concept and drawings.
- Build the customer’s communication using clear media with technical and strategic messages (meeting minutes, projects progress, project status, document revision with history).
Mission 3 :
Advanced development projects
- Propose innovative and new technical solutions with the support of the Advanced Development Team
- Organize and lead brainstorming sessions.
- Analyze the benchmark.
- Compare, rank, and challenge several concepts in order to propose the best solution.
- According to the risk analysis, identify the main killers and define the risk release plan.
- Use CAD software to initiate concept and drawings.
Mission 4 :
Intellectual Property (Patents)
- Propose new concepts to be protected by an Intellectual Property
- Complete the MoldTecs file to exchange with the IP department or lawyer.
- Verify and freeze the IP file proposed by the IP department or lawyer.
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Qualifications, Skills, Experience, Competencies)
- Bachelor’s in engineering (master’s would be plus).
- Min 6 years of relevant work experience especially in the automotive “under-the-hood” resin functional & engineering components (Intake Manifolds, Charge Air Ducts, Expansion Coolant Tanks, Washer tanks etc.) with expertise/real life working experience in relevant processes (Injection Molding, Welding (Hot Gas, Hot Plate, Vibration, Ultrasonic etc.) & assembly operations)
