Job Title: PLC Controls Specialist
The PLC Controls Specialist plays a vital role in maintaining and improving the electrical and automation subsystems within our production facility, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety practices, conducting regular audits, and reporting any issues that may affect food safety or personnel safety.
- Communicate effectively with management, vendors, peers, and production personnel on issue status and project progress.
- Provide technical leadership and support to electrical and instrumentation technicians at the facility.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electronics, instrumentation, and controls issues using appropriate tools and software.
- Collaborate with internal and external resources to resolve issues efficiently.
- Interpret electrical schematics and user manuals.
- Troubleshoot process issues with automation software, hardware issues with PLCs, and touchscreens.
- Utilize advanced network troubleshooting to diagnose control networking issues.
- Work with IT to troubleshoot and maintain automation servers.
- Create user manuals and training documentation; train all technicians as necessary.
- Identify and facilitate process and automation improvements.
- Work with Corporate Controls to implement program changes.
- Assist and consult with management/engineering on projects as needed.
- Provide support and leadership to electrical, electronics, and instrumentations technicians.
- Manage, backup, and organize all automation-related documentation for the facility.
- May require shift/weekend work and up to 25% travel.
Requirements:
- 2-year certification from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- 5 years of strong industrial electrical background in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as electrical schematics, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, and procedure manuals in English.
- Ability to write routine reports, procedural manuals, and correspondence in English.
- Effective communication skills to present information in one-on-one and group situations.
- Experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell automation.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Food Processing or Production Plant experience.
- Experience in mechanical systems and pneumatics.
- Electrical Apprentice or Journeymans license.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently stand, communicate, and listen.
- Occasionally walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Visual perception to perform job including peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.
- Able to perform repetitive movements.
- Able to work in variable temperatures (cold/hot).
