High School Social Science Teacher
Job Description
Purpose:
This teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a High School Social Science program for all students grades 9-12. Candidate will teach courses in History, Civics, and Western Civilization
Qualifications:
- A valid and current Illinois State PEL in High School or eligibility
- Able to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
- Thorough understanding of pedagogy and the best practices of education with a focus on the Illinois Learning Standards for Social Studies.
- Ability to design lessons that engagingly teach the curriculum, applying various teaching methods.
- Strong supervisory and classroom management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism.
- Proficient with Google Suite or related software.
Reports to:
Building Administration
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop curriculum mapping, pacing guides, and lesson/unit plans to guide courses in History, Civics, and Western Civilization.
- Deliver instruction for students of varying ability levels that challenge, engage, and promote well-rounded learning of social science subjects.
- Attends professional development and training related to all Social Science programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.
- Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
- Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer plans for improvement.
- Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
- Organizes, develops, and coordinates special culinary events/activities.
- Keeps accurate records and delivers timely reports as required.
- Participates in student team meetings as needed. Participates in collaborative teacher/staff meetings as required.
- Maintains curricular and supplementary material inventories and makes purchasing requests in a timely manner to ensure necessary supplies are available for student projects.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc
- All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning
- Follows the District’s job description for teachers.
- Perform other duties and take on responsibilities as assigned by the district and/or building administration.
- Ability and demeanor open to having fun at work.
