High School Spanish Teacher
Job Description
Purpose:
This teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive high school Spanish program for students in grades 9–12, including instruction across multiple proficiency levels of the Spanish language.
Qualifications:
- A valid and current Illinois State PEL in World Language Spanish
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of effective pedagogy and best educational practices
- Delivers Spanish instruction aligned with ACTFL proficiency guidelines through engaging, real-world lessons that promote language acquisition, cultural competence, and critical thinking
- Strong understanding of comprehensible input, proficiency-based instruction, and second language acquisition theory.
- Able to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
- Strong supervisory and classroom management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to maintain professionalism.
- Proficient with Google Suite or related software.
Reports to:
Building Administration
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop curriculum mapping, pacing guides, and lesson/unit plans to guide Spanish I, II, III, IIII and Native/Heritage Speakers courses.
- Deliver instruction for students of varying ability levels that challenge, engage, and promote well-rounded learning of Spanish subjects.
- Foster a classroom environment that supports diverse learners and encourages risk-taking in language learning.
- Assess student progress through performance-based tasks and formative assessments.
- Proctor language placement assessments to ensure accurate student placement, and monitor student progress over time to support appropriate instructional planning and growth toward language proficiency goals.
- Support students pursuing the Seal of Biliteracy, including preparing them for required language proficiency assessments.
- Attends professional development and training related to all Spanish programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments, which guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and student learning.
- Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
- Implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
- Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offer improvement plans.
- Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals regularly.
- Organizes, develops, and coordinates special events/activities.
- Keeps accurate records and delivers timely reports as required.
- Participates in student team meetings as needed. Participates in collaborative teacher/staff meetings as required.
- Maintains curricular and supplementary material inventories and makes purchasing requests promptly to ensure necessary supplies are available for student projects.
- Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating, etc
- All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning
- Follows the District’s job description for teachers.
- Perform other duties and take on responsibilities as assigned by the district and/or building administration.

Terms of Employment:
As determined by the MEA Collective Bargaining Agreement
Salary: $41,873-$84,442 depending on Experience
