Operated by Momentous Institute, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening the mental health of children, families, and communities since 1920, Momentous School is a nationally acclaimed laboratory school providing pre-kindergarten 3 through 5th-grade education. Role: The Classroom Teacher is part of the team directly dedicated to the educational and social emotional growth of our students. They will help create an environment where students feel safe and ready to learn by collaborating with school staff, Momentous Institute mental health services staff, and Momentous Institute leadership, as well as with students’ families and reading buddies. Teachers will assist with educational compliance requirements set forth by internal and external partners such as the school leadership team and state learning requirements and testing.

Actions and Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a self-contained classroom environment which attends to the social and emotional health of all students and holds high expectations for strong academic performance
- Collaboratively develop, implement, and assess curriculum using the Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge as standards
- Collaboratively pursue professional growth and participate in ongoing Momentous Institute research
- Timely and effective communication with families and staff
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with families
- Create and maintain a safe, social, and emotionally healthy learning environment for children
- Teach and model social and emotional skills
- Collaboratively plan and implement engaging, meaningful units and daily lessons incorporating project-based learning, appropriate field trips and integrating technology in meaningful ways
- Recognize and build upon student’s strengths in preparing lessons to meet individual needs
- Continuously assess student needs and adapt teaching to meet individual needs
- Evaluate academic progress using a standards-based system for reporting mastery
- Access to the help and expertise of school leadership and other colleagues
- Communicate regularly with families about all aspects of their child’s development
- Support parent partnerships proactive and responsive communication
- Plan with the Family Engagement Coordinator and families for active participation in school-related activities throughout the year
- Complete Momentous Institute training in fostering social emotional health and trauma-informed practices
- Participate in all vertical and horizontal alignment activities
- Participate in all professional development
- Build and maintain a reflective practice
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s or graduate studies preferred
- Active Texas Teacher Certificate in good standing
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

Physical Demands:
- Moving about accomplishing tasks both in indoors and outdoors spaces.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing for prolonged periods.
- Consistent communication with others to exchange information.
- The ability to assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- The ability to occasionally lift and move objects up to 20 pounds.
