Environmental Scientist/Technician Momentum Environmental provides industrial cleaning, waste management, emergency response and remediation services for a wide variety of leading customers in the northeast. The Environmental Scientist/Technician (Technician) is a critical element of field teams that execute those services and is responsible for the technical tasks commonly performed on many projects. The Technician works closely with field crews and management to support the Health and Safety, compliance, technical and quality elements of service engagements of all Momentum lines of business. The Technician reports to the Director of Operations and works closely with site supervisors daily on a wide variety of health and safety, operational, sales and technical functions. Essential Responsibilities • Plays an active role in the Company’s Health and Safety management system including hazard communication, tracking, near miss documentation, audits, and training. • Provides technical and project management support to both field crews and project management staff including environmental media sampling, installation of emergency response measures, industrial cleaning and remediation systems, report writing and other quality control aspects of the environmental contracting field. • Generates technical documentation relating to field operations, remedial work plan and closure report writing, and environmental sampling. • Provides support to project management staff on environmental investigation projects (e.g. soil boring, soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling, report generation, etc.) • Participates in emergency response engagements by being a part of on call service rotations. • Communicates regularly with other operational colleagues on technical, logistical and quality control elements of service engagements. • Supports the logical efforts of the Company while managing project level functions related to labor, internal equipment, rental equipment, specialty materials, and waste processing throughout the company’s service territory. • Cultivates and maintains excellent customer and vendor relationships by collaborating with other team members in “get work” activities. • Supports the leadership team in the management of all project level risks including Health and Safety commercial/contract risks and liabilities. • Maintains an unwavering commitment to the adherence of all state, local, and federal environmental laws, and regulations. Position Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required by the position. Core Competencies • At least 3 years of environmental industry experience; either contracting or engineering • Consulting and Engineering experience preferred • Environmental sampling, technical report writing experience required • CDL license and equipment operation skills are a plus • Understanding of OSHA, RCRA, and DOT regulations as they relate to field services. • High emotional intelligence and ability to develop relationships/ trust with team members • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal. • Ability to effectively interact with management, other departments, and vendors. • Ability to travel to most areas of upstate New York for job site support. Personal Protective Equipment • When working at a customer site or in a field environment, as appropriate, the ability to wear any of the following personal protective equipment (PPE) required: • Steel toe boots • Eye protection • Hearing protection • Gloves/ Hand protection • Fire resistant uniform • Others as required by OSHA, Internal EH&S, and customer/ site EH&S Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works in a variety of environments, and is required to see, talk, hear, reach with hands, stand, walk, drive frequently, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. Essential duties require bending, squatting, and twisting frequently. The employee will frequently be exposed to dirt, dust, and fumes. Noise levels of the typical work environment is generally moderate but may vary depending on customer site visits. The employee will occasionally be required to lift/move up to 75 lbs.
