Description
A Summer Camp Counselor works on a seasonal part-time basis instructing weekly summer camps. Must be at least 14 years to apply.
Momentum is seeking enthusiastic counselors with a strong work ethic and a love for kids to join our seasonal summer camp staff. We strive to be leaders in the outdoor industry, helping campers conquer new heights, make lasting memories, and build a foundation of active play centered around climbing.
At Momentum, we use our unique gym setting to teach kids about climbing, to spark a passion for physical activity, and keep a playful atmosphere throughout the week. A counselor helps to create an environment that is exciting, playful and safe. Counselors assist in teaching essential climbing techniques, top-rope climbing, bouldering, games on and off the climbing wall and other fun activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Distribution of focus :
This 20-25 hr / week position will focus on instructing weekly summer camps while creating a safe, fun, and exciting camp experience for all campers.
Administration
- Create a fun and exciting environment for campers to explore the vertical world of climbing
- Lead games and activities with participants
- Identify participant's skill levels and needs
- Help with setup and breakdown of camp each day
Customer Service and Facility Obligations
Provide a positive customer service experience for parents, giving feedback on campers before and after practiceAbility to put immediate needs of campers first at all timesAbility to command respect, enforce safe climbing practices, recognize unsafe conditions, and discuss any concerns with fellow staff and campers in a professional mannerEnforce Momentum policies in a friendly, patient, and respectful mannerWeekly Recurring Tasks

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND CERTIFICATIONS
Basic knowledge of climbing safety and techniques; climbing experience requiredAbility to work with a large group of kids, either ages 4-6, ages 6-12 or ages 12-16Experience coaching, programming, and facilitating is preferred, but not requiredExperience working with children is preferred, but not requiredAbility to put immediate needs of participants firstAbility to command respect, enforce safe climbing practices, recognize unsafe conditions, and discuss any concerns with fellow counselors and campers in a professional mannerValid certification in First Aid / CPR or WFR / WFA is preferred, but not requiredENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Comfortable working in a loud, environment on a regular basisComfortable speaking in front of and providing instruction to large groupsBe comfortable working at height, moving up and down a climbing wallContinuously stand and walk on unstable and uneven surfaces for long periods of time.Able to repeatedly lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs of weight on a regular basis.Able to balance, kneel, pull, push, and grasp objects as needed.Have the visual acuity to assess details such as harness buckles, knots, and belay technique.
