JOB SUMMARY
Performs designated tasks that assist the Department Manager/Director of Tygart Valley Rehabilitation Center to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Assures customer satisfaction throughout the facility. Performs a wide variety of clerical duties, greets patients, maintains in and out-going calls, and performs regular housekeeping duties to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Also assembles, analyzes outpatient records, billing records and is responsible for obtaining insurance authorizations.
Performs clerical duties including but not limited to: answering phone and directing calls/taking messages, taking referrals, obtaining/completing paperwork, making appointments, collecting co-pays, bank deposits, preparing/maintaining patient charts, registering patients, entering patient demographic information in the hospital's computer system, contacting insurance companies for benefits and/or authorizations, faxing, scanning, typing, handling department mail etc.
Provides health information requests for medical information from hospitals, physician offices, healthcare providers, all patient requests, and other requests in a prompt manner reflecting the established hospital and departmental policies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience/Qualifications:
- 6 months’ experience in a medical setting is preferred.
- Previous experience in medical record keeping and insurance authorization is preferred.
- Administrative and clerical skills preferred.
- Experience working with the public in a professional and friendly manner.
- Must be computer savvy. Experience with Microsoft Office programs is preferred.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
- CPR Certification is required or must be obtained within the first 60 days of employment.
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Able to always maintain confidentiality and be HIPPA compliant.
