Performs all nursing functions within the scope of the practice of a Licensed Practical Nurse to facilitate patient flow and care by the provider.
- Working under the general direction and instructions from providers and RN on staff, they must maintain a courteous and professional manner in dealing with patients, visitors, medical staff, fellow employees, and students.
- Anticipates and acts to maintain a safe environment for the patient and others.
- Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with existing hospital policies and procedures.
- Accurately assess a patient’s physical and emotional needs and provide appropriate interventions.
- Communicates and acts as liaison between the patient, family, and physician in response to confidentiality and dignity.
- Descriptively document care, assessments, medical information, progress, and discharge.
- Interviews and assesses patients and/or family to obtain the required history and assessment.
- Identifies subtle changes and abnormal vital signs via frequent patient reassessment.
- Observes symptoms and patient’s physical and emotional reaction to procedure or treatment.
- Safely performs venipuncture and safely administers medication by all routes.
- Continually evaluate current nursing practice and patient care delivery models to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care.
- Provides desk assistance, such as answering phones, filing, making appointments.
- Distributes sample medications to patients under the direction of the provider, explaining risks, benefits, side effects, and instructions.
- Follows up on ordered tests by obtaining results and relaying them to the provider.
- Conveys information to provider; obtains and reviews orders; seeks provider input as needed.
- Assists providers with exams/procedures, including cleaning, preparing, and stocking exam rooms and equipment throughout the day
- Places orders for clinical supplies with manager approval. Restock shelves and perform inventories, assuming accountability for documentation, records, and inventory.
- Properly collects and delivers specimens to the hospital laboratory for testing.
- Follows proper protocol for all medical tests, procedures, and use of equipment.
- Attends required monthly/quarterly staff meetings.
Educational Requirements and Certifications
- Graduate of an approved program of practical nursing.
- The current West Virginia State Nursing license is required.
- Must possess CPR certification.
- BLS Certification within the orientation period.
Experience
• One-year experience in an urgent care clinic, emergency dept., or medical office setting, is preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience required.
• Authorizations and referral experience is required.
• Patient scheduling knowledge is preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of general theory and practice
• Experience using EHR
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
