Job Summary
The Pharmacy Operations Supervisor provides leadership and support for day-to-day inpatient pharmacy operations to deliver optimal medication therapy to patients. Completes and follows up on work orders to Facilities and Information Technology to ensure the department can meet customers’ needs. Responsible for staff supervision, scheduling, coordination of new employee orientation, resolution of employee issues, discipline and action plans. Completes staff evaluations in collaboration with Pharmacy Director. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in performance improvement projects, quality initiatives, and benchmarking to ensure operational excellence, clinical quality, and financial efficiency.
Responsibilities
Expertise Actively learns and demonstrates expertise in the Pharmacy Operations Supervisor role by staying abreast of departmental practices and policies, but consistently performing within the pharmacy practice act, and by displaying a consistent understanding of all required duties and the timeline for their completion. Demonstrates technical ability in managing the various pharmacy systems including the automatic dispensing machines, the pharmacy information system, the controlled substances safes, and the medications pre-packager. Completes and follows up on work orders to Facilities and Information Technology to ensure the department meets customers’ needs. Other duties include staff supervision, scheduling, coordination of new employee orientation, resolution of employee issues and/or discipline and action plans. Assists the Director of Pharmacy with staff evaluations as well as assisting with various projects, quality initiatives and benchmarking. Customer Service Actively learns and performs job duties in a manner to consistently improve the patient experience. Assists the nursing staff with coordinating medication therapy to meet individual needs. Contributes to the efficient availability of the right medication at the right time for our patients. Demonstrates organizational skills and plans. Exhibits effective problem-solving skills in dealing with customer need and departmental needs. Flexibility Able to respond to emergent situations in an effective manner. Uses time to departmental advantage to ensure efficiency in completion of assigned tasks. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Pharmacy supervisory experience, minimum two years required; or at discretion of pharmacy administration. Formal leadership training a plus. Knowledge of general inpatient pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance. Graduate of an approved College of Pharmacy or graduate of a foreign pharmacy who has obtained the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee certificate. Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 25lb
