Job Summary
The Trauma Program Manager is responsible for the day to day process and performance improvement activities for nursing as well as ancillary personnel. This includes but is not limited to education, clinical, research, administrative, and outreach activities of the trauma program as determined by the needs of the Trauma Medical Director and the organization. The coordinator works in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director, Director of Emergency Services and the multidisciplinary team that impacts the trauma patient in developing performance improvement program He/she also maintains contacts with additional relevant agencies inside and outside of the hospital and is a key individual in the injury prevention of trauma related injuries.
Responsibilities
Oversees the care and coordination of the trauma program
Responsible for maintaining the trauma budget integrity including labor and expenses unless otherwise approved by the Emergency Services Director. Responsible for reviewing, evaluating and validation of trauma data for integrity including oversight of the trauma registrar. Reports any issues to the Trauma Medical Director and the Director of Emergency Services. Assures compliance with all six Critical Elements set forth by the WV OEMS. Represents the trauma program on various hospital and community committees including but not limited to the Trauma Committee, STAR, WV Coalition for Injury Prevention, EMS/ED Committee, Patient Safety, Emergency Management and the Quality Board as required. Coordinates clinical management and education across the continuum of care for the trauma patient including but not limited to the Emergency Department, Orthopedic Department, Operating Room and the Intensive Care Unit. This includes development, review and revision of clinical protocols, education of clinical guidelines and practice, as well as serve as a resource for those same areas. Attends six staff meetings a year for each of those areas with educational presentation in each area and validation of material presented with testing. ED staff meeting participation including case presentation and review. Provides for intrafacility and regional professional development, case review and direct community trauma education and prevention programs such as Health Fair and Partners in Education. Participates in the Region 6/7 quarterly EMS education sponsored by Monongalia General Hospital. Monitor clinical process, outcome and system issues with feedback. Development and implementation of performance improvement plans based on research and analysis of data collection including protocol changes. Participates in the orientation of new staff members with review of trauma regulations, database requirements and outcomes. Develops and leads two four hour education days per year for nursing staff related to trauma nursing. Participates in the development of trauma care systems at the community and state levels. Maintains BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS, and CEN. Maintains 16 hours of trauma related education yearly. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director, Emergency Services Director and Trauma Committee develop and implements goals for the trauma program. Ensures licensure and accreditation standards are met for Trauma Center Verification. Ensures Trauma Service compliance with regulatory agency standards, i.e., DNV, CMS, and OSHA. Reviews, develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures for the Trauma Service that meet state and federal rules and regulations.
Performs Other Duties as Required
Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and attends internal education sessions as scheduled. Completes all required competency assessments. Maintains required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.). Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to10 lbs with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.
Relevant nursing experience including trauma. Effective interpersonal communication skills.
