Afterschool Activities Intern
Do you have a talent, skill, or passion you would like to share with youth? Would you like be paid for it ? Come intern for an afterschool program for the Monadnock Regional Afterschool Collective! We are currently hiring Afterschool Activity Interns to design, execute, and support fun, enriching activities for students K-8 outside of school hours.
Position Overview:
The Afterschool Activities Intern is an opportunity to share your passion, talent, or skill with youth in grades K-8, while also increasing your hands-on field experience with the support of educators and other OST professionals. Even if your career goals do not directly align with children, this internship will expose you to various workplace experiences, as well as give you a chance to flexibly practice and hone a variety of skills in group settings
Qualifications:
· A passion to share your talent skill or profession with youth
· Experience working with youth in a positive environment preferred
· Willing to increase knowledge and skills in working with children, youth, and families
· Ability to connect club activities with school day curriculum and program goals
· The ability to identify programmatic needs and act accordingly
· Can adapt to varying work schedules as assigned and needed
· Experience with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
· Approved background & criminal records check
Location: The Afterschool Activities Intern may be placed at one (1) or more of 13 afterschool sites in these locations (with student preferences taken into consideration):
· Keene, NH (5 sites)
· Hinsdale, NH (2 sites)
· Winchester, NH (1 site)
· Swanzey, NH (3 sites)
· Troy, NH (1 site)
· Fitzwilliam, NH (1 site)
Hours: 4-6 hours per week total, with flexible days/times based around your course schedule. However, this position requires at least some availability Monday-Friday between 2:30-6pm. Specific days and times can be worked out with the site directors upon hiring.
Duration: Internship is one to two (1-2) semesters of 15 weeks. There are also opportunities to work in summer programs or move into permanent employment positions through the afterschool program itself.
Compensation: The hourly rate of 16-20/hr, based on experience, is paid through the afterschool site. There are additional opportunities to also earn course credit, practicum hours, community service hours, letters of recommendation, and/or to fulfill other educational obligations and objectives, if needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the MRAC site Coordinator/Director, the Afterschool Activities Intern will:
· Work with the Site Coordinator and students in designing, conceptualizing, and leading clubs, workshops, and activities. Survey students before and after activity for evaluation purposes.
· Identify goals and curriculum linkage of activities and teach them throughout activities.
· Provide support to other activity leaders
· Maintain a positive and respectful environment while maintaining rules of program. Provide consistent and appropriate discipline methods.
· Work to motivate students that are having difficulty participating in activities.
· Work with staff to manage safe, fun and healthy learning environments
· Assist in Program set-up/break down, including preparing and transporting materials, food items, equipment, homework supplies and other items to and from program locations
· Transport children
· Work with students during daily Homework/Study Time
· Record attendance, student performance, events, incidents etc. in Daily Log and input where necessary
· Address students’ special needs and challenging behaviors.
· Ensure safe and respectful use of equipment and facilities.
· Assist and attend monthly staff and volunteer meetings.
· Attend professional development trainings, when necessary
