Position Summary
The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in advancing Barn Sanctuary’s mission and will be responsible for overseeing the strategic, operational, and financial aspects of the organization. This dynamic leader will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and the community to ensure the sustainability and growth of Barn Sanctuary. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for animal welfare and will possess the skills and experience necessary to lead and inspire our team while driving meaningful change.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Vision
- Provide inspiring leadership and vision to advance the mission of Barn Sanctuary.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure long-term sustainability and growth.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive organizational culture.
Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring effective implementation of programs and services.
- Manage the annual budget of $1 million , ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
- Supervise and support a team of 15-20 staff members, a team of outstanding volunteers, promoting professional development and performance excellence.
- Through collaboration with the Board, and by employing rigorous project management fundamentals, lead Barn Sanctuary’s transition to its Forever Home
Fundraising and Development
- Lead fundraising initiatives and cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making organizations.
- Develop and execute comprehensive development plans to secure financial support for the organization’s programs and projects.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
- Serve as the public face and spokesperson for Barn Sanctuary, advocating for animal welfare and promoting the organization’s mission.
- Build and nurture partnerships with stakeholders, community leaders, and allied organizations.
- Represent Barn Sanctuary at events, conferences, in traditional media and across a wide range of social media platforms and engagement models.
Governance and Compliance
- Work closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on organizational performance and strategic initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Promote transparency and accountability in all aspects of organizational governance.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Animal Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of executive or senior leadership experience in a non-profit organization, preferably in animal welfare or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage budgets, and lead teams.
- Proven fundraising and development experience with a successful track record of cultivating donors and securing major gifts.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and public relations skills.
- Deep commitment to the mission and values of Barn Sanctuary.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and understanding of governance best practices.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
