The Animal Care Technician is responsible for the daily care, health monitoring, and overall well-being of animals housed in Monell’s Animal Facility. This role ensures compliance with ethical and regulatory standards while maintaining a clean and well-functioning research environment. The technician works one-on-one with animals and supports the facility by handling essential duties such as feeding, cage maintenance, sanitation, and recordkeeping.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Provide daily care for small laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, and environmental enrichment.
- Monitor the health and well-being of animals, promptly reporting any concerns to the supervisor or veterinary staff.
- Operate cage washing and sanitizing equipment to maintain a clean and sterile environment.
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of animal rooms, equipment, and common areas in compliance with facility protocols.
- Receive, store, and distribute supplies and materials necessary for animal care and research operations.
- Assist in recordkeeping and documentation related to animal health, inventory, and facility maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with institutional, federal, and AALAS guidelines for laboratory animal care and welfare.
- Identify and report low inventory levels to ensure timely replenishment of essential supplies.
