Job Summary:
The Director of Secondary Learning will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices for grades 6 through 12. This role will work closely with middle and high school teachers, administrators, and district leadership to ensure high-quality instructional practices that align with Missouri Learning Standards (MLS), promote student achievement, and prepare students for college and career readiness. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with expertise in secondary education, curriculum design, and instructional coaching.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development and Alignment:
- Collaborate with 6-12 teachers and administrators to develop, revise, and align curriculum to Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) and district goals.
- Ensure curriculum materials are rigorous, culturally responsive, and meet the diverse needs of secondary learners.
- Instructional Support:
- Provide coaching and mentoring to 6-12 teachers to enhance instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
- Model effective teaching strategies, including project-based learning, differentiated instruction, and technology integration.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
- Professional Development:
- Design and deliver high-quality professional development sessions tailored to the needs of 6-12 educators.
- Stay current with research and best practices in secondary education, including college and career readiness initiatives.
- Support the implementation of district-wide initiatives, such as STEM programs and Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
- Assessment and Data Analysis:
- Support the development and administration of formative and summative assessments for 6-12 students.
- Analyze student performance data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Assist teachers in using data to inform instructional decisions and differentiate instruction.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Build strong relationships with 6-12 teachers, administrators, and district leadership.
- Serve as a liaison between middle/high schools and the district office to ensure alignment of instructional practices.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to share updates, resources, and best practices.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to secondary education.
- Assist in preparing reports and documentation for district and state requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in Secondary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field (required).
- Valid Missouri teaching certificate with secondary certification in a relevant content area (required).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in a 6-12 setting.
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and administrative roles (required).
- Knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards and secondary assessment systems.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices for secondary students.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to drive instructional decisions.
- Proficiency in educational technology tools and platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require travel between middle and high school sites within the district.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for meetings or professional development sessions.
