Summary of Job Function
Plans and supervises the administrative operations of the laboratories. Assists the chairman in implementing laboratory services, activities, policies and procedures as appropriate for efficient and relevant anatomic and clinical laboratory support diagnosis and management of patients by the medical staff. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.
Job Functions
-Address complaints regarding laboratory functions and works with Chairman, pathologist and supervisors to resolve them. Responsible for the evaluation of personnel in accordance with performance standards. Responsible for the preparation of reports payroll records, and other statistical data as required
-Manages department s administrative and financial functions according to established procedures and is accountable for preparing operating budgets and all cost centers. Assists in coordinating the department s continuing education programs; approves funds for outside hospital programs, and conducts in- house supervisors meetings on a frequent basis. Assists in communicating the availability of new laboratory functions throughout the hospital.
-Responsible for CAP accreditation, JCAHO accreditation, AABB and state licensure programs. Responsible for compliance with requirements of all governing regulatory agencies, i.e. OSHA, DEPE, NJ, DOH, etc. Maintains established hospital and departmental policies, procedures and objectives, quality assurance, safety environmental and infection control; and compliance with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies; develops an inventory system; oversees cost control measures in the utilization of department supplies, materials and equipment. Maintains all required records, statistics, logs, files and other documents as required
-Responsible for the preparation and submission of capital budgets and Approves the purchase of department equipment and supplies.
-Reviews rates and procedures codes; supervises the processing, billing and charging of outside laboratory tests. Assists in the short and long-term planning for the laboratory. Attends and participates in administrative and other meetings as required. Assumes responsibility to special projects as assigned.Maintains professional growth.
Job Qualifications
-BA/BS. Area of Concentration: Medical laboratory technology.
-3-5 years supervisory experience in some section of the laboratory.
-Familiarity with lab instrumentation, electronics and computer maintenance and PC as applied in a clinical laboratory environment.
