Position Overview:
The Senior Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) provides strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of food safety, quality assurance and quality management systems (QMS) across multiple food processing facilities. This role is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining world-class QMS frameworks and FSQA programs, ensuring the consistent production of safe, high-quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations. The Senior Director will proactively analyze industry trends, customer feedback and production data to develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in safety, quality and operational efficiency. This leader will champion a culture of food safety and quality excellence throughout the organization, driving alignment with company values, strategic business objectives and regulatory requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an integrated QMS ensuring alignment with USDA requirements, food safety standards, and company quality policies, procedures, and goals.
  • Lead the development and execution of strategic food safety and quality initiatives, including continuous improvement projects, process optimization, and innovative solutions to meet evolving industry best practices and consumer expectations.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to HACCP, quality standards, and USDA/FDA regulations.
  • Implement and maintain best-in-class programs including allergen control and pathogen prevention.
  • Drive KPI results by managing, reviewing, and trending quality metrics, ensuring the company maintains a safe manufacturing environment and addressing concerns proactively.
  • Regularly review and update quality assurance programs and policies to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Oversee quality management throughout the manufacturing process, from raw materials to finished goods, including collaboration with 3PLs, vendors, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives to improve operational efficiency and minimize financial loss.
  • Ensure proper protocols, including product rotation and shelf-life extension practices, are followed to optimize product usability and reduce waste.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing FSQA team by organizing, prioritizing, and tracking tasks and project progress across multiple manufacturing facilities.

The ideal candidate will have the following:


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in food manufacturing industry within USDA/FDA-regulated environments, strong preference across multiple product categories.
  • Expertise in HACCP, GMP, GFSI standards, and regulatory compliance (9 CFR, 21 CFR).
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Proven leadership experience in multi-facility FSQA operations, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in QA systems, such as Safety Chain, and data analysis tools.
  • Experience managing USDA/FDA audits and implementing corrective action plans.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of quality assurance processes, food hygiene, and sanitation practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate at all organizational levels.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify trends and address complex FSQA challenges.

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and improve KPI performance.

  • Crisis management skills for effectively handling FSQA incidents and regulatory issues.

  • Must be 18 years or older.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move within manufacturing facilities for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items moderate weight (approx. 25 pounds) 
  • Ability to read and analyze detailed reports and perform inspections.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Primarily works within manufacturing facilities, with occasional office-based duties.
  • Exposure to cold, wet, or noisy environments during manufacturing facility audits or inspections.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as safety shoes, gloves, hairnets, and ear protection, must be worn as required in manufacturing facility environments.
