Description
The goal of this position is to complete tasks and assignments oriented toward maximizing the direct delivery of client services which fall under the responsibility of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, and which can best be provided by a peer.
Utilizing his/her own unique recovery story, the Peer Support Specialist provides support that promotes self-determination, personal responsibility and empowerment through recovery and assists people with a mental illness (peers) to gain personal recovery in their own lives.
A Peer Support Specialist seeks to help peers by mentoring, advocating, leadership activities and training on recovery-oriented issues through certified peer support led groups, and personal assistance with community resources.
Services may relate to housing, consumer engagement and re-engagement, entitlements, skill building and ongoing peer support.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required. Demonstrated typing, spelling, grammar, data entry and basic math skills. Must have or obtain State of Michigan Peer Support Certification (CPSS) and complete ACT 101 training within the first year of employment.
Salary : $19 - $24
