The Computer Support Specialist is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing of College owned computers and software and advanced video/data projection systems used in support of academic programs across the College campus. The Computer Support Specialist assists in the integration of traditional audiovisual systems with new instructional technologies to ensure the College keeps pace with the changing needs of higher educational instructional environments. The Computer Support Specialist assists in providing technical assistance to faculty and staff regarding computer and software systems through troubleshooting problems with desktop computers, maintaining and repairing information systems equipment, and performing installation of software and hardware for the College. 1. Supports academic programs and College activities by installing computer systems and related equipment in classrooms, labs and offices.
- Ensures accurate records are kept by maintaining and documenting microcomputer and network components, including hardware, peripherals, and software.
- Assures the College's hardware and software requirements are met with the highest level of performance and reliability by assisting with installation, configuration, recommendations, wiring, wireless, and support.
- Maintains and configures computer operating systems and management software. Implements new computing resources as required, including hardware, software, and peripherals.
- Performs basic printer troubleshooting, replacing consumables, and works with communication of the external entities for more difficult printer repairs.
- Maintains a professional and positive rapport with students, faculty, and staff by assisting with backing up data and e-mail login problems.
- Helps to ensure the availability of computer resources by monitoring information systems use and providing support services for various technologies.
- Assists with the preventative maintenance program for all information systems equipment. Maintains the operational condition of advanced electronics and video/data systems through cleaning, calibrating, modifying, and repairing technology systems campus-wide.
- Assists with the receiving and handling of new and in-service equipment and works with IT personnel to formulate and update operating instructions and training materials for the proper use of equipment.
- Maintains classroom instructional technology by assisting in the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance schedule, performing periodic servicing as directed in technical manuals, maintaining a technical database for equipment, controlling a spare parts inventory to ensure the availability of required repair parts and components, and reading technical manuals and attending training opportunities to facilitate proper performance of these systems.
- Assists with recycling of all e-waste items for the College.
- Assists in facilitating the installation of advanced media systems and serves as a backup for the IT Services Liaison and Help Desk Representative, including evening operations.
- Ensures a quality program of support services is continuously offered by meeting regularly with the Chief of Information Services to review, assess, and suggest improvements regarding technical support. Participates regularly in meeting discussions affecting campus support such as procurement, implementation, problem determination and resolution, training, and the development of user computing standards.
- Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
- Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contact with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Chief Information Officer.
- Contributes to the overall success of Information Services by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Associate's degree in computer science, computer information systems, or related field.
- Two or more years of experience in computer information systems.
