Job Description:
The primary function of this position is to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain all County electrical issues up to 600 volts AC.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Troubleshoots in diagnosing and resolving electrical problems by analyzing symptoms, testing circuits, and replacing faulty components.
- Installs electrical wiring, conduit systems, lighting fixtures, control panels, and other electrical components in commercial and industrial buildings.
- Performs routine inspections, preventative maintenance checks, and repairs on electrical systems to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Analyzes work order requests and develops a cost-effective and efficient plan in order to complete the job.
- Adheres to local and national electrical codes and safety regulations.
- Takes inventory of parts.
- Interprets electrical blueprints and schematics to accurately plan and execute electrical installations.
- Makes necessary repairs/upgrades and monitors/adjusts graphic control systems.
- Assists with project planning, estimating materials, and coordinating work with other trades.
- Trains employees.
- Checks and maintains tools periodically in order to ensure proper operation and safety.
- Keeps work area clean and organized, and uses safety cones and signage when required.
- Acts in capacity of Supervisor in Supervisor's absence.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
- In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Vocational or Technical School. Six (6) years minimum prior related work experience.
Special Qualifications:
Valid Florida Driver’s License. Electrical License/Certification preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to have guidelines for work but determine the approach for doing the work; supervisor focuses on the outcomes of the work.
- Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of basic algebra and statistics OR use of heavy equipment; some of the tasks performed include participating in data collection and detailed analysis; reporting on the accomplishment of specific department goals and tasks; OR operating or repairing heavy equipment.
- Ability to make decisions that govern my activities as well as others; decisions impact how unit provides services and support to internal and external customers.
- Ability to oversee and manage more than two employees in the organization performing different types of work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

- Visual Acuity: Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
