Summary/Objective:
The Radiology Manager is responsible for the delivery of radiologic services in the facility. In collaboration with facility Administration, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable the highest standard of patient care. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, to develop, support, and coordinate patient care and related administrative functions.


Essential Functions:

  1. Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and directs the Radiology Department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that conform to current standards of radiologic practice and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  2. Develop, maintain, and periodically update writing policies and procedures the day-to-day functions of the radiology services department.
  3. Develop, maintain, and periodically update Radiology Services procedures.
  4. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to radiology staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation.
  5. Evaluates the work performance of all radiology personnel and implements discipline according to policies and procedures.
  6. Ensures patient receives quality care by implementing and evaluating radiology procedures and policies.
  7. Coordinates radiology services with all other departments
  8. Collaborates with physicians, community agencies and institutions to improve the quality of services and to resolve identified problems.
  9. Oversees radiology schedules to ensure they meet patient needs and regulatory and
    budgetary standards
  10. Supervises preparation of timely and accurate patient charges.
  11. Participates in the recruitment and selection of radiology personnel and ensures sufficient staff are hired.
  12. Oversees and supervises development and delivery of in-service education to equip
    radiology staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, quality care for patients.
  13. Proactively develops positive employee relations; promotes teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communications
  14. Monitors staff for compliance with facility polices on workplace safety.
  15. Monitors the infection control program designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and
    comfortable environment designed to prevent the transmission of disease and infection.
  16. Coordinates and/or develops on-going QA activities for radiology services to monitor
    compliance with standards and regulatory requirements through rounds, interviews, and record reviews. Compiles summary of findings for the Quality Assurance committee
  17. Participates in budget development for the radiology department
  18. Helps prepare staff for inspection surveys, instructing staff on matters of conduct and disclosure, being interviewed by inspectors, immediate corrections of problems noted by surveyors. Reviews and reinforces important standards previously cited.
  19. Participates in the preparation of the Plan or Correction response to an inspection survey and implements any follow-up QA required for any radiology allegations.
  20. Communicates directly with patients, families, medical staff, radiology staff,
    interdisciplinary team members, and department heads to coordinate care and services
  21. Promotes customer service and hospitality and responds to and adequately resolves complains or concerns from patients or families about radiology services.
  22. Promotes compliance with accident prevention procedures, safety rules, and safe work practices to prevent employee injury and illness and control workers’ compensation costs.
  23. Assures staff is trained in fire and disaster and other emergency procedures and evaluates performance during drills
  24. Ensures proper testing by qualified personnel for equipment efficiency
  25. Ensure supplies and equipment are available for necessary radiology procedures
  26. Performs radiology procedures as necessary.
    a. Performs diagnostic radiographic exams
    b. Operates imaging equipment.
    c. Operates other equipment/devices as necessary.
    d. Positions patients.
    e. Immobilizes patients as necessary.
    f. Calculates exposure factors.
    g. Practices radiation protections.
    h. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patient during examinations as necessary.
    i. Practices aseptic techniques as necessary.
    j. Administers contrast media, utilizing policies and procedures set forth by medical
    director.
    k. Assists physician with imaging procedures.
    l. Initiates life support measures for patients as necessary.
    m. Maintains patient films and records.
    n. Maintains competency in Radiology technology.
  27. Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the all radiology staff. This position’s responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment within a healthcare setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, or airborne particles and some mechanical equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements. The noise level is moderate to quiet. Frequent exposures to destressed patients, families, and visitors. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position and requires standing, pushing, pulling, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Working in dim lighting environment required.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; hours are flexible based on the job duties demand. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the position/job duties. This position also requires personnel to be “on call”. Return time to the facility is 30 minutes (certain positions may be exempt).


Travel:
This position may require some travel. Travel may be outside the local area and overnight.


Required Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and registered with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Current, valid AHA Healthcare Provider training (BCLS).
- Demonstrated ability to perform radiographic procedures in accordance with the policies and protocols in effect (assessed within 90 days of hire).

- Familiarity with the technology related to practice in the assigned functional sections. 

 

Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.

- At least five years management experience required.

- At least three years supervisory experience.
