    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Position Title: Teacher Interventionist - Reading Specialist

    Reports to: Building Principal


    POSITION SUMMARY: To deliver a high quality academic intervention which will maximize the achievement of every child.

    GENERAL DUTIES:

    • Promotes the enjoyment of reading, writing, mathematics, and science.
    • Provides for the selection and scheduling of students for programs based on multiple sources of data and staff referrals.
    • Develops appropriate goals and objectives for children receiving intervention.
    • Prescribes instructional procedures and materials based upon the diagnosis of needs, including a student’s optimal learning mode.
    • Works with children, one-to-one, or in small groups.
    • Coordinates the differentiated intervention with the individual classroom teachers.
    • Collaborates with other specialists to develop appropriate intervention strategies.
    • Discusses the progress of students with parents, faculty, and administrators.
    • Participates in Data Team, SRBI, and PPT meetings, as appropriate.
    • Participates on committees involved in the development and revision of curricula.
    • Assists classroom and content area teachers with the implementation of appropriate goals, objectives, and instruction for both remedial and advanced students.
    • Aids the Reading Consultant in the selection and ordering of materials, as well as organization of building resources.
    • Collaborate with the building Reading Consultant, Elementary Math Coordinator, Elementary Science Coordinator, and Elementary ELA Coordinator.

    • Encourages the development of acceptable moral character and behavior by students.
    • Shares materials, talents and abilities.

    PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Fulfills required assignments and/or duties.
    • Arrives promptly for school, scheduled classes, and duties.
    • Supervises halls and other areas while school is in session.

    • Supports and follows established school policies.
    • Provides input for curriculum development.
    • Participates in Data Team, MTSS, and PPT meetings.
    • Is accurate and punctual in maintaining records and making reports.
    • Collaborates with colleagues
    • Stays current with research, readings, and professional growth opportunities

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    CERTIFICATION:

    Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts, 1–12 (102)

    Elementary Teacher Certification

    Wilson Reading or Ortin-Gillingham preferred

    EXPERIENCE:

    Elementary Classroom Teaching Experience
