- Previous coaching experience in track and field at the high school, collegiate, or competitive youth level is highly preferred.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Knowledge of fundamental skills and techniques in sprints, distance running, jumping, and throwing events.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with athletes, staff, and parents.
- Ability to contribute to a positive, competitive, and supportive team culture.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to assist in planning practices and managing meet logistics.
- Commitment to upholding and enforcing MHSAA rules and Monroe High School’s codes of conduct.
- Willingness to support the head coach in setting high academic and athletic standards for all team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, administrators, and other members of the school community.
- Assist the Head Coach in leading the Track and Field team during practices, meets, and competitions.
- Help develop and implement training programs focusing on athlete development, injury prevention, and event-specific performance.
- Support regular practice sessions that emphasize technique, conditioning, and event strategies.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team environment that promotes discipline, resilience, and respect.
- Monitor academic performance and encourage a healthy balance between athletics and academics for all team members.
- Assist in the recruitment and development of athletes, encouraging participation at all levels.
- Uphold and enforce all MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) rules and Monroe High School’s codes of conduct.
- Collaborate with the Head Coach and other coaching staff to ensure consistency in training and program goals.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding team progress, events, and expectations.
- Attend team meetings, professional development workshops, and other required functions as directed by the Athletic Director.
