What are the responsibilities and job description for the Varsity Volleyball Coach position at Monroe Public Schools?
- Plan, organize, and lead all aspects of the varsity volleyball program, including practices, conditioning, and competitions.
- Develop and implement effective game strategies, skill development programs, and team philosophies to enhance player performance and program success.
- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development.
- Supervise and mentor student-athletes, ensuring their safety, well-being, and adherence to school, team, and MHSAA policies.
- Provide leadership for the entire high school volleyball program, including overseeing and supporting the Junior Varsity and Freshman coaching staff.
- Collaborate with middle school coaches to develop a strong feeder program that aligns with the high school’s volleyball philosophy.
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, school administration, and the Athletic Department regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
- Ensure compliance with all MHSAA rules and regulations, including eligibility requirements, training certifications, and safety protocols.
- Encourage academic success by monitoring student-athlete progress and supporting a strong balance between athletics and academics.
- Manage program logistics, including equipment, uniforms, fundraising efforts, and budget considerations.
- Organize and participate in off-season training programs, summer camps, and community engagement events as permitted by MHSAA.
- Prior volleyball coaching experience, preferably as a varsity head coach or assistant coach at the high school or collegiate level.
- Strong knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, and advanced coaching strategies.
- Proven ability to motivate and develop athletes while fostering discipline, teamwork, and accountability.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of and adherence to MHSAA coaching requirements, including obtaining CPR/First Aid certification.
- Ability to pass a background check and meet all Monroe Public Schools employment requirements.
- Experience coaching at the varsity, collegiate, or elite club level.
- Previous playing experience in volleyball at the high school, collegiate, or club level.
- Valid Michigan teaching certification or relevant educational background (preferred but not required).

Position Summary:
Monroe Public Schools is seeking an experienced and passionate Varsity Head Volleyball Coach to lead the high school volleyball program. The ideal candidate will foster a competitive and sportsmanship-driven environment while developing student-athletes both on and off the court. This role includes overseeing all aspects of the varsity team while coordinating with sub-varsity coaches to build a cohesive and successful program in alignment with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) guidelines.
