The Molding Process Technician assists and supervises all first shift operations to meet the production schedule. Essential duties include :
Start-up injection molding machines and equipment at start of shift; ensure jobs are running at steady-state within appropriate cycle times and meeting quality standard before turning over to Operators
Direct daily operations to achieve planned production schedule; assign Operators to jobs / tasks, plan daily workload, and fill-in roles to fill gaps as required
Relieve Operators for scheduled breaks, as needed
Train department employees on safety, quality, and operating procedures
Properly communicate and document all process changes; clearly and effectively communicate approved deviations to standard workflows
Perform job changeovers (teardown previous and set up next job) according to standard work procedures and changeover checklists
Install dies safely on machines to support production changeover schedule; perform insert changes on mold to assist the toolroom, as required
Set up and service all work stations within the Molding Department according to established, documented standard process parameters
Manage raw material inventory; prepare materials for processing by blending, mixing, and / or drying according to establish, documented standard parameters
Ensure all product meets quality specifications during in-process inspections according to product-specific Quality Assurance Plan (QAP)
Ensure all product is packaged and labeled correctly per product-specific specifications
Perform minor troubleshooting to keep jobs running to quality standards
Optimize process parameters to achieve quality parts and improve cycle times
Recommend and support improvement projects to continually improve processes and / or workflows
Monitor department operations to ensure all standard procedures are followed; safety, quality, and operational standard procedures. Take corrective action required to ensure all direct employees and daily operations meet production and quality standards
Purge injection molding machines and follow approved procedures to shut-down department at end of shift
Adhere to Fielding Manufacturing’s ISO 9001 systems to achieve quality standards and promote operational excellence

Education and Experience :
A high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 3-6 months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in thermoplastic injection molding is strongly preferred.
Licenses / Certification :
None is required.
Skills / Knowledge :
Must possess or gain a thorough understanding of the processes employed by our client and must understand the industry sectors the customers operate. Must have a complete understanding of company policies and procedures.
Good organization and time management skills are required to prioritize work appropriately to meet deadlines.
Excellent mechanical aptitude and ability to apply critical thinking to solve technical problems.
Working knowledge of injection mold tooling, thermoplastic resins, and hydraulic plastic injection molding presses and auxiliary equipment is required. Experience with Toyo hydraulic injection molding machines is a plus.
Ability to install and set up molds is required. Must be able to input correct process parameters on equipment HMI screens and set process settings correctly using controls.
Must be able to read measuring devices; Vernier calipers, micrometers, Go / No-go gages.
Must be able to operate scales and count parts by weight.
Ability to read and interpret blue prints is strongly preferred.
Experience using hand tools as well as overhead crane is required.
Basic knowledge of IQMS ERP software is a plus.
Physical :
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Body Positions : The position requires standing, walking and reaching with hands and arms for up to 8 hours. Balance and climbing are also required. Body movements of turning the head and torso, twisting, bending, lifting, placing, reaching, pulling, pushing and flexing the arms are required. Employee will be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and / or crawl at times.
Body Senses : The employee is required to have good vision, both at close range and at distance, and be able to accurately identify colors. Good hearing is required to identify audible alarms and changes to normal process sounds. The employee must speak well to direct Machine Operators and communicate with management. Adequate olfactory senses are required to identify plastic materials upon heating and / or burning. Sense of touch, good motor skills and dexterity is required to handle parts, inspect using appropriate measurement tools, and work on process equipment / machines.
Strength :
Must have the ability to regularly lift and / or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds with available lifting equipment.
Mental :
Fluency in the English Language (read, write and speak) is required. Must be able to read, interpret, and understand written and oral instructions. Additional fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Must be able to write reports, business correspondence, operating procedures, and in-process inspection results and notes. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations is required.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals is required. Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Ability to interpret read and interpret bar and line graphs to draw meaningful conclusions is required. Must be able to effectively present information, respond to questions, and communicate with managers and internal employees.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold or heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to precarious places and must access material at heights up to 12 feet using provided equipment. The noise level in the department can be loud due to operating machines, especially secondary operation equipment such as ultrasonic welders and stamping machines.
Eye and ear protection is required. All applicable safety regulations must be followed at all times.
AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY
Authority : The Process Technician directly supervises 3-5 employees in the Plastic Molding Department, carrying out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Accountability : The Process Technician is directly accountable to the Operations Manager and the Vice President of Operations. The Process Technician will regularly communicate and work with other Team Leader, Tooling Manager, Quality Manager, Purchasing Manager, and Manufacturing Engineer. #PRO360
