SUMMARY
The Vice President, Human Resources sets, evaluates, and enforces value focused, MNQ/Lean Six Sigma driven, and legally compliant human resource policies, procedures, and best practices. The Vice President, Human Resources is also responsible for identifying and implementing long-range strategic talent management goals including career development, diversity, and oversight of Monrovia’s transition planning initiative.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Referencing Monrovia’s values of fairness, respect, opportunity, and pride of craftsmanship as a starting point, models and demonstrates the highest levels of legal and ethical behavior in the execution of duties.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the Human Resource team at all nurseries.
  • Assists with resolution of human resource, compensation, staffing and benefits questions, concerns, investigations, and issues that may arise throughout the company.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to define the company’s long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through talent management.
  • Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, progress reviews, and craftsman incentive programs.
  • Maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Assures legal and regulatory documents are filed including, new hire report, 5500, EEOC, OSHA, etc.
  • Maintains company policies and handbook to communicate accurate information to craftsmen and coaches alike.
  • Maintains accurate organizational charts companywide.
  • Oversees Monrovia craftsman recognition programs, including Service Awards, Craftsman of Distinction, and Asados.
  • Fosters a work environment that places the utmost importance on the health and well-being of all craftsmen.
  • Partners with workers compensation carrier and consultant group to proactively identify workers compensation trends and recommend health & well-being initiatives to reduce risk for injury companywide.
  • Collaborates with investment committee to provide oversight over the fund selection and investment strategy for the company and our craftsmen.
  • Maintains accurate retirement data to ensure ERISA compliance, working with retirement partner to complete the annual 5500, profit sharing allocation and year-end testing.
  • Partners with VP, Organizational Development in overseeing the training and development of all craftsmen.
  • Applies and models the principles of MNQ/Lean Six Sigma in all activities to ensure continuous improvement in all departmental processes.
  • Oversees the development and administration of diversity and affirmative action processes; works with outside consultant on creation of annual Affirmative Action Plans for each nursery.
  • Maintains work structures in Paycor & Oracle to ensure new jobs, positions, departments, etc., are not created without the prior knowledge of the executive team, as required.
  • Ensures integrity of the data entered and maintained by Oracle Human Capital.
  • Collaborates on testing and training of Paycor & Oracle Management system.
  • Researches, develops, and implements sound practices for human resource adherence to companywide issues, e.g. COVID-19.
  • Oversees Monrovia’s transition planning initiative to provide for continuity in the most critical management positions.
  • Maintains effective on-going communication with direct reports to ensure goals and responsibilities are met and conducts at least one progress review per year.
  • Partners with Chief Executive Officer on the design and implementation of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
  • Works with Finance to oversee annual merit increase process.
  • Drafts and implements the budget for the human resource department.
  • Establishes metrics for managing department effectiveness and for measuring the impact of the department on the business.
  • Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events maintaining standards expected for professional certification eligibility.
  • Performs other related duties to benefit the mission of the company as assigned.
SUPERVISION TO BE EXERCISED: Dotted line reporting for Human Resource Coaches at each nursery; Home Office Human Resource Coach, Company Benefits Coach.
SUPERVISION TO BE RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
WORKS WITH: Executive Team; Nursery Coaches; Finance; Payroll Coach; Home Office department coaches and Craftsmen.

  • Proficient with Oracle Cloud, specifically Human Capital Management (HCM).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required, Master’s or law degree highly preferred.
  • At least ten years of human resource management experience required, with strategic, talent management, and/or business development experience highly preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred.

  • This is a hybrid role which requires a combination of remote and on-site work. On-site presence will be needed for key meetings, strategic discussions, and other critical business activities.
