Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Horticulturist to join our team of skilled gardeners. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for growing and maintaining plants, gardens, and landscapes. This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Weed areas that are visible to visitors, paying particular attention to the Italianate Garden rose and meadow areas, and the entrance at Hwy 9.
- Water plants in containers weekly during dry months, and water plants within the landscape (including the entrance at Hwy 9) that are not managed by an automatic controller by manually operating in-ground valves.
- Routinely check drip irrigation for leaks or other problems and repair the irrigation system as needed.
- Regularly groom fast-growing landscape plants.
- Deadhead roses in the Italianate Garden weekly during wedding season.
Secondary Tasks
- In the spring, assess when irrigation needs to begin and check all irrigation zones for animal damage.
- Check drip irrigation lines, especially in the Italianate Garden – the lines need to be opened at the ends and flushed.
- Perform extra hand-weeding in the spring and remove seedlings of volunteer trees such as Buckeyes, Horsechestnuts, Bays, Palms, and Oaks when young.
- Mulch weedy areas with wood chips every two years.
- Weed and prune overgrown plants in the cactus garden.
