The Montana Ballet Company (MBC) has enriched Bozeman and the Greater Gallatin Valley since its inception in 1984, bringing to our community the fine art of live dance in collaboration with world-renowned professional dancers, choreographers, conductors, composers, musicians, filmmakers, and set, lighting, and costume designers. MBC presents a full performance season showcasing repertory that is rich and diverse including timeless classical ballets, as well as original contemporary and modern works. MBC’s bustling Academy trains over 300 students annually infusing vital concepts of health and wellness. General Manager ~ Position Description
Position Summary: MBC is seeking a dynamic and organized General Manager to oversee the operational and administrative functions essential to the organization's success. Reporting directly to the Artistic/Executive Director, the General Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and effective management of MBC's day-to-day operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management:
o Manage MBC's financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
o Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments.
o Collaborate with the Artistic/Executive Director and Board Treasurer on financial strategy and planning.
2. Operational and Logistical Oversight:
o Coordinate logistics for performances, rehearsals, and events, ensuring smooth execution.
o Negotiate and manage contracts with artists, contractors, facilities, venues, and vendors.
o Maintain relationships with external partners and stakeholders to support operational needs.
3. Human Resources Management:
o Manage human resources processes, including recruitment, onboarding, and staff evaluations.
o Support professional development initiatives for staff, dancers, and contractors.
o Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, fostering a safe and inclusive work environment.
4. Compliance and Risk Management:
o Ensure MBC's compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
o Implement policies and procedures to mitigate organizational risks and liabilities.
5. Information Management and Technology:
o Oversee data system needs, including database management and IT infrastructure.
Support the integration of technology to enhance operational efficiency and performance tracking.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, Business Management, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Proven experience in arts administration, preferably within a ballet or performing arts organization.
- Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management and financial reporting.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of human resources practices, compliance, and risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks, as well as familiarity with database management systems.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Montana Ballet Company, with a passion for the performing arts.
