Montana Free Press (MTFP), Montana's leading nonprofit, digital-first newsroom, is seeking a full-time Community Coordinator to provide critical support for MTFP’s audience growth strategy and further MTFP’s mission of providing unbiased, public-powered journalism to all Montanans. The Community Coordinator will be directly involved in maintaining MTFP’s various public communication channels, such as social media and email. The Community Coordinator will also be responsible for assisting the Director of Audience Engagement in planning, coordinating, and hosting reader engagement events in-person and online. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Director of Audience Engagement while assisting the Director of Partnerships and Advancement as needed. The position is based at MTFP’s headquarters in Helena, MT. Travel and some nights/weekends will be required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning, producing, and distributing content across MTFP’s various communication channels (social, email, on-site, etc.);
- Engage with MTFP readers through email and social media channels, collaborating with Editorial and Development teams as necessary;
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of MTFP merchandise program;
- Support the Director of Audience Engagement and Director of Partnerships and Advancement in documenting the impact of MTFP’s work;
- Assist in planning, scheduling, coordinating, promoting, and running both in-person and online events that support MTFP’s audience goals;
- Attend third-party events and promote MTFP to new audiences.
Minimum Desired Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and time management skills;
- Strong communication style demonstrating responsive, tactful, and professional communication while possessing a user-centric mindset;
- Proven ability to make data-driven decisions; experience or demonstrated ability to learn new technologies/platforms, such as WordPress and Google Workspaces (including Google Analytics);
- Experience navigating audience/membership relationships, including demonstrated ability to create and manage campaigns for lead acquisition, retention, and stewardship. Prior community organizing experience is also desirable;
- Demonstrated experience planning and coordinating events, including coordinating with event stakeholders, developing runs of show and managing production logistics;
- Skilled at thinking creatively about day-to-day work and challenges that arise;
- Experience managing social media accounts, including post scheduling and content moderation desired. Familiarity with social listening tools such as Sprout Social or Meltwater is also a plus.
Compensation:
Final offer amounts will carefully consider multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise and location, and may vary from the amount above.
