Position Overview:
As a Design Engineer at Montana Knife Company, you will play a crucial role in the
development of our fixed and folding knife designs, locking mechanisms, and other components
essential to the knife industry. You will collaborate closely with our engineering and production
teams to bring innovative ideas to life, ensuring our products meet the high standards of quality
and performance our customers expect.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop folding knives, locking mechanisms, and associated components with a
focus on functionality, ergonomics, and aesthetics.
- Conduct thorough research and analysis to stay ahead of industry trends and technological
advancements.
- Create and maintain production 3D models, technical drawings, and specifications using
SOLIDWORKS.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, and marketing to
ensure product viability and market readiness.
- Prototype new designs and conduct rigorous testing to ensure durability, safety, and
performance.
- Address and resolve design issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate innovative product ideas and improvements.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical product design for manufacture and assembly
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (SOLIDWORKS, Fusion, or similar).
- Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to work effectively in a collaborative
environment.
- Ability to balance numerous projects simultaneously while driving progress and schedule
conformance.
- Passion for outdoor activities and a strong appreciation for quality craftsmanship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience to enhance design integrity.
- Product design for CNC machined components.
- Familiarity using GD&T to produce functional mechanical drawings that correctly define part
tolerances and requirements.
- Experience working with a quality control or management system.
