POSITION SUMMARY:
Job SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant II to join our finance team at Montana Knife Company. This role supports the day-to-day accounting functions by ensuring the accuracy of financial records and assisting in month-end close processes. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in manufacturing, a strong understanding of cost accounting, and excellent analytical skills. ERP experience (NetSuite) is a plus.
Key Responsibilities· General Ledger & Reconciliation: Maintain general ledger accounts, prepare journal entries, and perform account reconciliations.
· Accounts Payable: Assist with processing vendor payments and resolving discrepancies.
· Inventory Accounting: Monitor raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventories to ensure accurate accounting and reporting.
· Cost Analysis: Collaborate with operations to track and analyze production costs, including labor and materials. Reconcile POs and invoices.
· Monthly/Quarterly Close: Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
· Compliance & Reporting: Assist with reconciliation of sales tax filings in Avatax, fixed asset tracking, and adherence to internal controls.
· Variance Analysis: Analyze and report on budget-to-actual variances, including cost deviations and operational performance. Review variance analysis between months and provide comments.
· Audit Support: Prepare schedules and provide necessary documentation for external auditors.
· Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
· 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
· Experience in processing payroll.
· Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks Online).
· Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
· Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, PivotTables, and macros).
· Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
· High level of integrity and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment.
· CPA or CMA certification (or working toward certification).
· Experience with inventory and production processes in the knife or similar manufacturing industries.
