Academic Qualifications: Applicant must have a valid Montana Educator License with an Elementary endorsement. Experience with emotional or behavioral disorders preferred or be able to obtain certification within 60 days of assuming contracted duties.

Position Description

POSITION TITLE:Â Â Behavior Intervention Teacher

FACILITY:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Affiliated Buildings-Crow Agency, Hardin

REPORTS TO:Â Â Â Â Â Â Building Principal

Position Overview

The Behavior Intervention Teacher develops intervention strategies to meet the individual needs of students struggling with behavior challenges. The person in this position works collaboratively with the student’s educational team and parents to develop positive behavior supports for the classroom and/or within the school environment that allows the student to successfully integrate behaviorally into the school setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with Hardin School Districts Behavior Support Team for planning and development for Behavior Support programming

Conduct observations and establish appropriate behavior plans as neededÂ

Work cooperatively with the classroom teachers who have students with emotional disturbance or behavioral needs in their mainstream classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies

Administer programs and services for behaviorally or emotionally disturbed students for the purpose of improved functioning

Assist in developing interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors

Develop and implements a system of tracking and evaluating students’ academic and social performance on a daily basis

Complete necessary reports and daily record keeping as required by state and/or local policies and procedures

Consult with administrative and supervisory personnel regarding progress and problems of students in the program

Model, teach and train school staff in positive behavior strategies as well as provide assistance with coordination of differing therapies, and research based behavioral intervention and services

Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and / or in self-selected professional growth activities

Select and requisition instructional materials, books, etc., and maintain inventory records

Participate in faculty and / or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities

Report cases of suspected child abuse according to state law (Mandatory Reporter)

Desired Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:

Education with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders preferred

Valid Montana Teacher Certification with proper endorsement

Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program

Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and school community

Ability to be flexible in scheduling and planning

Ability to effectively use technology in the instructional/learning process

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingÂ

Ability to handle crisis situations

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student matters

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies

EQUIPMENT USED

Audio-visual equipment, interactive board, computer, tablet, various software, printer, copier, general school equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, occasionally walk and stand. The employee must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications.
